Good Day Sunshine Organics is located on 9 acres in the town of Ottawa, SE Wisconsin. Previously, I grew in a large market garden that belonged to a friend in Menomonee Falls and sold the produce at the New Berlin Farm Market. I wanted to expand the growing area and after some years of searching found what I was looking for near Dousman. Since the land had been under conventional cropping the transition to organic began in the fall of 2006 with the planting of a cover crop of organic winter rye. The fields where produce is not being grown will always have a cover. I follow organic practices but am not certified organic. By using cover crops, compost and foliar applications of fish emulsion, kelp meal and compost tea the microbial life of the soil increases. In turn, the nutrition, taste and quality of the produce is enhanced. Our small farm CSA strives to achieve the shared goal of respect for food and land with our members. Making the decision to join a CSA may seem expensive because of the upfront cost. In reality, the cost of the produce is comparable to farm market and supermarket prices. And, eating quality, fresh, local produce does make you feel better!
