Sow Little Farm is located on three acres on the southeast side of Madison, Wisconsin. It is entirely operated by Michael Johns and his wife Terry Cohn. Sow Little Farm sold its first off-season raspberries in November 2002 to L’Etoile, an award-winning Madison restaurant. The goal of Sow Little Farm is to produce the highest quality raspberries without using herbicides and pesticides and make them available to chefs and local buyers at the time of year when raspberries are shipped to the Midwest from California, Mexico, and Chile. Since raspberries are a very perishable fruit, growers in far-off places cannot harvest their berries when they are ripe and most flavorful. Ripe fruit will grow mold before those growers can get their produce to market. In contrast, we harvest the berries when they are ripe and deliver them to customers within a couple of days. We are thrilled with the rave reviews we have received. Our business cards say “Wisconsin fresh raspberries when you least expect them” and the excitement of our customers has spread like wild fire.
